Climate Judiciary Project

Curriculum Website

The Climate Judiciary Project of the Environmental Law Institute hired Covive to develop a new website to share its judicial education curriculum with judges around the country who are facing an increase in climate litigation cases. The website provides two levels of account access for ‘registered users’ and ‘verified members,’ granting additional resources and networking contacts.

Project Identity

The CJP leadership team recognized the opportunity to build out a distinct project identity as a foundation for the website and supporting communications. The identity would complement and have a clear relationship to the parent Environmental Law Institute organization. Covive developed concepts for icon, monogram, and wordmark logo alternatives. Color palette and font selections build on ELI brand elements, while presenting a memorable, modern look. The selected CJP monogram logo lock-up invites its audiences to refer to the project by the acronym while showing its relationship to ELI.

Website Design and Development

The design process began with several conversations to understand the needs of the website, including the ability to offer varying levels of permissions to registered users. The design of the website would allow for future incorporation of video modules presented by the curriculum authors, inspired by the "dark mode" interfaces of similar training and video presentation sites reviewed in our competitive analysis. Design of all screens, particularly the curriculum module pages, leverages typographic hierarchy, scale, position, contrast, and layout to organize a large amount of information in a way that is intuitive and elegant. Fixed scrolling links, inline footnote pop-ups, callout boxes, expanding figure diagrams with captions, and supporting document downloads make the curriculum content easy to navigate and reference.

Module Document Covers

While the CJP curriculum modules are presented in full in digital format on the website, printable document versions are offered for download for those who prefer to print, read, and highlight. Covive provided a redesign of the document covers to incorporate the new project branding, improve typographic hierarchy, and standardize the proportion and placement of cover images. Template files were provided to the client team for adaptation for future publications and documents.
