Construction Banners

Since 2015, Covive has supported the communications, campaigns, and graphic design needs of the Presidio Trust, the federal government agency which stewards the Presidio of San Francisco in partnership with the National Park Service and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. The Presidio Tunnel Tops is a $188M, 14-acre public park built on top of the Presidio Parkway highway tunnels. Designed by James Corner Field Operations, the firm behind New York City’s High Line, the park includes walking trails, scenic overlooks, a nature playscape for kids, picnic areas, and food trucks. For the major construction phase of the project, Covive was asked to design construction fence banners to identify the project and build anticipation. Covive provided a range of designs and managed cost estimates, sourcing, and installation by the sign fabricators.

A long-awaited landscape

In the works for nearly 2 decades, the design and planning of this iconic new landscape included demolition of an above-grade highway, undergrounding of this major CalTrans-maintained section of California Highway 101, selection of a landscape architect and engineering team, collaborative co-creation with public input and engagement, and, finally, construction, landscaping, and grand opening. Covive supported each phase with public communications, a design lab exhibit at the Presidio’s main post, construction process communications, and grand opening invitations.

Construction banner concepts presentation

These construction banner concepts demonstrate a range of colorful options, which were refined with client feedback. Originally requested as 4x8 banners, Covive recommended extending banner length up to 36 feet for stronger presence and readability. A window graphics display was also designed for the glass façade of the existing Crissy Field center on the north edge of the project. Covive provided print specifications and print-ready artwork and coordinated installation dates and vendor access with Presidio Trust facilities and construction management staff.
